The Institute of Export & International Trade was established over 85 years ago to support UK businesses in growing their international markets and trade. The Institute is the leading association of exporters and importers, providing education and training to professionalise the UK’s international traders. The Institute of Export & International Trade have been shortlisted for the Best People Team award at the 2022 Investors in People Awards.

Why did you enter the Awards?

Our people team at the Institute of Export & International Trade applied within the Investors in People awards to value and recognise our own achievements as a small team who have grown together both professionally and personally. Equally, we must continue to grow and therefore applying for the award challenges and motivates ourselves to continue to go the extra mile. It is important to us to get our name and our story out there while connecting with other organisations who share our experiences or can provide an alternative perspective.

What was the key point of your entry?

We are a team that embrace the journey – all the bumps in the road included. It is vital to us to build relationships with a team member and always be taking the next steps to be a people orientated team. Our focusses recently have been wellbeing (mental health, financial and physical), benefits evaluations, ensuring our salaries are reflective for each team member and refining our employee life cycle including their day to day confidence. We are self-aware of what team members need and want in order to feel their purpose and value, we listen to them and welcome constructive feedback through engagement surveys, exit interviews and milestone catch ups (including 1 year into employment and through our 3-month probation process) as well as always encouraging a two-way open line of communication. This application is not only a representation of our pride in our HR team but also the entire organisations efforts and teamwork.

What would it mean to you to win?

To win the Best People Team award with Investors In People would be a great recognition of our care and passion for the teams in our organisation. To have our organisation’s story shared and celebrated would reflect and honour the steps and growth we have gone through – particularly in the recent tough climates.
