Cleankill Pest Control

The Investors in People Awards 2024 - Finalist Case Study

Cleankill Pest Control

Nominated for The Award for UK Employer of the Year: Gold (2-49 people)

Why did you enter the Investors in People 2024 Awards?

Everyone in Cleankill has worked incredibly hard to make the company a success, from the administration team, to our technicians, surveyors and directors. We are extremely proud of our achievements along the way and one of the accomplishments we are most proud of is our Investors in People Gold.
We liked the idea of putting our hat in the ring against some of the best companies in the UK and benchmarking our achievements against other Investors in People businesses, so when we were invited to enter the awards we didn’t hesitate.

Over the years we have won many awards which include Best Employer, Best Green Business and Most Responsible Business. We have also been recognised as the best large company at the British Pest Control Awards. A member of our staff two months ago won the best UK Pest Technician of the Year, beating many hundreds of others.
It is important to us to be recognised both outside of the industry, and beyond our geographical locality.

What has it meant to you, your team, and your organisation to be shortlisted for an Investors in People 2024 Award?

We are all incredibly excited and to receive this recognition and to be shortlisted in the Investors in People Awards for the very first time.
From the start, we have offered the best benefits we could and treated our employees like a ‘family’. This has helped us to retain our staff and have a happy and productive workforce delivering a first-class service.

We ensure that our team is paid above the industry average, we pay the full pension contribution of 8%, all staff have access to an Employee Assistance Scheme and BUPA for themselves and all dependants and all are covered for a 4 x salary death in service benefit. The IiP Award shortlisting gives national recognition to the ethos of the company which in turn gives confidence to the staff and assists greatly in the future recruitment as we grow.

What would it mean to your organisation to win an Investors in People 2024 Award?

Gaining our Gold accreditation for the third time was one of the proudest moments in Cleankill’s history. To win an award on top of this would be incredible and make all the effort we have put into retaining our accreditation worthwhile.

The award would help to set us apart from our competition even more and, we hope, inspire other companies in our sector and beyond to embark on their own Investors in People journeys.

How important is it for your organisation to be a part of the Investors in People community and engage in awards and events like this one?

Any award is only good for about 18 months. It is important to continue to engage in awards and events as it helps the company grow and remain in touch with new developments and trends.

Winning is always a great boost for staff, while being shortlisted allows us to look at other companies and learn from what they are doing.
