Entering The Investors in People 2024 Awards was the ideal next step in the development of our people and culture strategy. Copley was founded nearly 80 years ago and the values that helped establish and maintain the company still drive and guide us today.
As our business grows, it’s important that we uphold but also regularly review those principles. We recently defined our Core Values of Excellence, Innovation, Ownership and Care and these now help drive every activity within the business, from our overall strategy through to recruitment, people development, product engineering, business development and customer support. Partnering with Investors in People was an opportunity to gain an independent perspective on our strategy and practices, and how they are being implemented and adopted. More importantly it was about identifying how we could improve. The world is changing and will continue to do so it’s important for us as a team to embrace that change and never stand still.
We were delighted to achieve “We invest in people Gold” at our first attempt. Entering the awards was an opportunity to celebrate that achievement, showcasing Copley as an organisation that values and cares for its people, and recognises the critical contribution that they make.
It is a huge honour to be shortlisted for an award of this importance and incredibly exciting for the entire Copley team.
We were extremely proud in the first instance to achieve Gold level in our Investors in People assessment. Having such positive recognition from a prestigious, independent body was a much-valued endorsement of our practices. It reaffirmed the purpose of our actions and invigorated us to continue developing further. The award nomination is an extension of that and further showcases the team’s successes.
In terms of what it means to our team, 95% of our people stated in a recent survey that they are proud to work for Copley. Our Investors in People assessment also highlighted numerous positive comments from individuals regarding engagement, communication and culture. Our people are proud to be part of the progressive, caring and committed workplace culture they have helped to create. Achieving We invest in people Gold, and the subsequent award nomination, communicates this culture to our local community and global marketplace and the team take immense satisfaction in this.
From an organisation perspective, we recognise that success is built on an engaged, motivated and rewarded team so we have always been committed to leading, supporting and developing that team. It is incredibly gratifying to be shortlisted for an award as a consequence of an approach that has always underpinned the business.
Winning the Investors in People Best Newcomer 2024 Award would be a crowning achievement for Copley and for the entire team.
Every individual within the business is committed to delivering on all fronts, whether that’s meeting our customers’ needs, developing new products or contributing to a positive, productive and rewarding culture. While the ultimate responsibility may lie with management to implement suitable people and culture strategies, it’s a collective effort and requires input and adoption from everyone in order to succeed. In the same way that every individual contributes to the commercial success and growth of the business, we all contribute to the culture that has been established as well. Our team lives the Core Values and they are at the heart of everything we do. Winning this award would be genuine recognition of that collective contribution and the commitment and care demonstrated by every member of the Copley team.
An Investors in People Award would highlight Copley as an employer that values its people and therefore enable us to attract, develop and retain the best talent. It would also differentiate us from other companies and sends a positive message to our market. Organisations that invest in their people are more likely to have engaged, committed and motivated employees which is undoubtedly beneficial for customers, suppliers and partners.
An Investors in People Award would ultimately endorse the work done so far to create a desirable culture within the business and provide motivation to build on this platform with the aim of achieving Platinum status in the future and hopefully winning other IIP award categories!
Being part of the Investors in People community is incredibly important for us as this is a group that can support our ambitions to continue to make work better for our people. Investors in People provide an unbiased, independent perspective on our business and its culture, enabling us to benchmark ourselves against global standards and work together to identify ways that we can improve as an employer. The awards in particular provide an opportunity to learn from other accredited organisations that have implemented successful people and culture strategies, especially those from other industries that are likely to have a variety of experiences and consequently a very different perspective.
When we embarked on the Investors in People journey we were always conscious that this was an opportunity not to just validate our current strategies but to learn. Copley has been successful for nearly 80 years and we want that to continue for a long time to come. Our success has been built on people and that will continue to be the case, however, the world is a very different place to 80 years ago and the future will obviously bring more change. The Investors in People community provides a route to learning how to best navigate that future.
