The Investors in People Awards 2024 - Finalist Case Study

Nominated for The Award for UK Employer of the Year: Platinum (250+ people)

Why did you enter the Investors in People 2024 Awards?

Those of us who work at Futures recognise that it’s a special place. But getting external validation through Investors in People helps us to both validate and benchmark ourselves against the best of the best. We have worked hard to achieve and retain our IIP We invest in people Platinum status because it matters – it creates positive energy for us, gives us a framework within which to keep improving, shows others how we excel and helps us recruit more like-minded and talented people. We were runners up previously which was great but we think we’ve moved on even more now and so we are determined to have our efforts recognised with this exceptional award.

What has it meant to you, your team, and your organisation to be shortlisted for an Investors in People 2024 Award?

We’re thrilled. We were so happy to be shortlisted for this award after our last IIP Platinum accreditation but slightly deflated not to win as you might expect. We’ve kept forging ahead in how we recruit, support and develop our people since we last entered these awards and invested heavily in our culture. We’ve been through a lot of change and challenges and come out the other side even stronger. So to be shortlisted again is amazing – and to win would be the cherry on the cake.

What would it mean to your organisation to win an Investors in People 2024 Award?

We are really proud of our organisation and our people – and the fact that our strength and ‘togetherness’ enables us to provide our customers with great homes and services. We think we punch above our weight. At the same time though we’re one of hundreds of housing associations in the UK and our sector has been through some very tough times with the failings of a few attracting national headlines and criticism from far and wide. If we won at The Investors in People Awards 2024 we think it would help to correct some of the negativity that sadly surrounds our sector and show that even a middle-sized housing association in an often overlooked region of the UK can be a world class employer that helps to enrich the lives of its team members and its customers.

How important is it for your organisation to be a part of the Investors in People community and engage in awards and events like this one?

It’s super important to be part of the IIP and similar communities or recognition schemes. We’re all guilty of ‘just getting on with it’ sometimes. And while that gets a lot done we can also then be at risk of being ‘in a bubble’. Having platforms such as this to see how others are doing, to put our work in context, to share, to learn and to get the validation that everyone needs at some point – but in a way that enriches the whole organisation is simply invaluable.
