The Investors in People Awards 2024 - Finalist Case Study

Nominated for The Award for Best People Team, The Award for Best Use of Technology

Why did you enter the Investors in People 2024 Awards?

After being awarded Investors in Young People Platinum and Investors in People Gold, we knew that entering the awards would give us further recognition and solidify our achievements. Being shortlisted and externally recognised amongst some amazing organisations reinforces that we are an employer of choice. We have been shortlisted for People Team of the Year, Best Use of Technology and three of our Young People have been shortlisted in Young Person of the Year category. The submission process provides the opportunity to reflect on the journey with our People and NextGen strategies.

Entering was about affirming our commitment to fostering an environment where our employees can have a positive impact and build unique careers. For our Young People shortlisted, it allows us to recognise their individual contribution and celebrate the knowledge and passion they demonstrate every day at Robertson.

What has it meant to you, your team, and your organisation to be shortlisted for an Investors in People 2024 Award?

Being shortlisted reinforces to our business, our people, our clients and supply chain that we are committed to investing in our people and strive to make Robertson a great place to work and partner with.

For the HR teams, being shortlisted serves as a reminder of their continuous hard work and commitment to the success of our people strategy. To be shortlisted as Best People Team in a national award is a reason to celebrate in itself. Our HR team members have been specifically selected for their unique set of skills and expertise – ensuring we have a broad spectrum of experience and knowledge as well as diversity of thought, gained across multiple industries, businesses and even cultures. This collective capability is evident in the creation of our people strategy, which is where we are able to demonstrate real impact and value for the organisation, our employees and the communities we serve.

In the Best use of Technology category, being shortlisted is testament to our leading solution to our HR MI data and reporting, and our collaboration with our systems partners. The implementation and development of technology allows our HR team to deliver on our organisational purpose: to assure a sustainable future. By investing in our people, processes, and technologies through building on our system and data capabilities to create a high performing culture.

It’s a phenomenal achievement to have three of our Young People being shortlisted in Young Person of the Year, demonstrating our commitment to providing meaningful career development and engagement opportunities for all our young people. Our aim is to improve the diversity of our workforce by attracting a new generation into Robertson and our industries, building a strong talent pipeline to ensure the future sustainability of the business. The young people shortlisted demonstrate our support in ensuring they achieve their full potential and career aspirations.

What would it mean to your organisation to win an Investors in People 2024 Award?

The IIP standard reflects the very best in people management excellence, winning an Investors in People 2024 Award would demonstrate that our achievements are a testament to the great efforts, determination, and commitment of every Robertson employee who individually and together work to realise our purpose to assure a sustainable future by following our principles of The Robertson Way.

The Robertson Way principles remain at the heart of how we do things here at Robertson and each of our strategic drivers are achieved by bringing these to life to shape the overall culture of the business. Being awarded Investors in Young People Platinum and Investors in People Gold this year was achieved through our commitment to continuous improvement and to win an Investors in People 2024 award would be in recognition that here at Robertson people are our most important resource.

How important is it for your organisation to be a part of the Investors in People community and engage in awards and events like this one?

Robertson has worked with Investors in People successfully for more than a decade. We have utilised the accreditation and annual review processes to support that period of significant organisational growth. Helping us identify areas of need and priority for our strategic objectives and providing a voice for our people.

Participating in Investors in People helps us benchmark our organisation against other employers and encourages us to continually improve. It reinforces that our people strategies are fit for a sustainable future.

For our employer brand, we see the Investors in People and Young People accreditations as authentication for potential candidates that we are committed to providing a psychologically safe workplace, and one which is inclusive and respectful to all.

And of course, an award night like this allows us to come together and celebrate with the best in industry.
