We entered the Investors in People (IIP) 2024 Awards to showcase how we’ve continued to evolve after achieving IIP Gold accreditation last year. That recognition motivated us to keep pushing boundaries, particularly with Alan, our digital assistant, who has become central to our efforts to enhance collaboration, recognition, and overall well-being in the workplace.
Initially developed to handle routine tasks, he has grown into much more. His role in strengthening our feedback culture, supporting employee recognition, and improving our quarterly reviews has been significant. Our IIP practitioner, during the Gold review, was intrigued by his potential and encouraged us to explore what more he could do. This feedback drove us to expand his capabilities, transforming him into a cultural touchpoint that supports both personal development and team engagement.
Since Alan’s introduction:
Employee satisfaction with company culture has increased by 16.8% in the last year and team members credited 12.6% of this to Alan, measured by his impact on tasks like team feedback and review prompts.
Our quarterly reviews have become more reflective and productive, thanks to his regular prompts.
Entering the IIP Awards allows us to highlight how we’ve applied practitioner feedback to create a better work environment. Alan embodies our commitment to using technology to enhance, not replace, human interaction in the workplace. This is our opportunity to showcase how innovation and a people-first approach can drive meaningful change and improve employee experience.
Being shortlisted for the IIP Awards is an opportunity for us to celebrate Alan and everything he means to us as a team. He isn’t just a digital tool; he’s a reflection of our creativity, collaboration, and shared vision. His development has brought us closer together, sparking ideas and conversations that have made our workplace more connected and engaging.
For us, this isn’t about seeking validation from others or having our hard work recognised—it’s about sharing something we are genuinely proud of. Alan represents the spirit of our team, and having a platform like the IIP Awards allows us to tell our story, showing how technology can enhance our culture and support our values. We believe he is the embodiment of what happens when people come together to innovate in ways that truly matter.
This shortlisting gives us the chance to show other organisations how a human-first approach to technology can transform the way teams collaborate, appreciate one another, and thrive. It’s an exciting moment for us to reflect on the journey we’ve had as a team and share that excitement with the wider community.
Winning the IIP Award would mean a lot to us, as it would highlight the journey we’ve taken with Alan, from an internal tool to something much bigger. He has become a symbol of how we integrate innovation with our team’s needs, making the workplace more engaging and collaborative. It’s not just about improving our internal operations—he is now such an integral part of our culture that we’re considering developing him into a product for others to benefit from.
Winning this award would be a huge boost as we move towards potentially bringing Alan to market. It would give us the credibility and visibility needed to introduce him as a tool that can transform company culture, just as it has for us. The recognition would support our initial sales and marketing efforts, positioning him as a product that blends technology with human-centric values.
For our clients, this would reinforce the trust they place in us, showing that we don’t just deliver innovative solutions for them, but that we live and breathe innovation within our own business. It’s a chance for us to showcase our ability to create technology that both enhances operations and nurtures a supportive, positive workplace environment.
Being part of the Investors in People community is incredibly valuable to us. After attending the IIP Awards for the first time last year, our team is especially excited to return this year. We were particularly inspired by hearing other companies share their innovative approaches to team well-being and collaboration, which strongly resonate with our own values. Motivated by these insights, we introduced several well-being and collaboration-focused initiatives into our review process. One standout addition has been the ‘collaboration index,’ where team members rate their level of collaboration with each colleague. We’ve visualised this through a heat map, making it easy to see how well our team is working together. It’s a tool that not only encourages ongoing collaboration but also highlights areas where teamwork is thriving. Attending last year’s IIP Awards was the catalyst for these improvements, pushing us to take practical steps to enhance both well-being and collaboration across the team. We’re excited to see what new ideas and innovations will be sparked for us at this year’s event.
For us, the IIP community represents the gold standard in people-focused practices. We’re proud to be part of a group that is continually setting benchmarks for the industry. Being surrounded by organisations that share our passion for investing in people is both inspiring and motivating. This is our chance to contribute to that collective effort, sharing how we’re using technology, like our digital assistant, to enhance workplace culture and support our team.
Being involved in the IIP events is not just about recognition—it’s about being part of something bigger. We’re eager to learn, share, and collaborate with others who are shaping the future of workplace standards, and we’re proud to play our part in that conversation.
