Why did you enter the Investors in People 2024 Awards?

We entered the Investors in People 2024 Awards to showcase our dedication and commitment to staff development, health and well-being. We see ‘Our People’ as the first key enabler in delivering our organisational Strategic Plan and as a Core Value in and of itself. We understand our success as a Higher and Further Education Institution is built on the strength of our people. Entering these awards enables us to celebrate our staff and our progress from Gold to Platinum, benchmarking ourselves against other providers nationally, ensuring we continue to lead with passion and purpose.

The Investors in People principles, which focus on values like integrity, collaboration, and continuous improvement, resonate strongly with our own Core Values: Actively Engaged, Being Modest, Integrity and Candour, and Our People. We believe this awards process is an excellent way to highlight the ways in which we support our staff in reaching their full potential. Ultimately, this enhances the experience we deliver to our students and employer network and helps drive our future success as an organisation.

What has it meant to you, your team, and your organisation to be shortlisted for an Investors in People 2024 Award?

Being shortlisted as a Finalist for The Award for UK Employer of the Year: Platinum (2-49) serves as an important workplace milestone and acknowledges the tremendous dedication of our leaders and staff in growing our organisational culture which is underpinned by an ethos of continuous improvement.

Along with our prestigious Platinum accreditation, Finalist status provides a tangible achievement we can showcase to prospective employees to demonstrate our investment and commitment to staff well-being, progress and support.

This selection is both a motivator and source of pride; it validates our growth over the last few years and serves as an important reminder of our achievements. Staff feel proud to work at UCQ.

What would it mean to your organisation to win an Investors in People 2024 Award?

Whilst winning an Investors in People 2024 Award would be an outstanding achievement for UCQ, validating our achievements and showcasing the dedication to, and of, our staff. We are already winners; we have the best staff in England.

For those outside of UCQ who are unfamiliar with how we work, it would elevate our reputation as a leader in people management and as an employer of choice. It would support our plans to continue to attract top tier talent, ultimately enhancing the quality of education we deliver to our students and employers.

How important is it for your organisation to be a part of the Investors in People community and engage in awards and events like this one?

Being a part of the Investors in People community is fundamental for UCQ, as it provides a structured framework for enhancing how we manage and support our staff. Participation in awards and events like this allows us to evaluate our progress, gain valuable insights from others, and remain informed about best practices in people management. As an employer we will continue to grow to support our staff, because the needs of staff will continue to change. This network fosters collaboration and information-sharing, allowing us to adapt to new challenges caused by an ever-changing landscape within the education sector.

Ultimately, our engagement with the Investors in People community and participation in its events goes beyond seeking recognition. It is a celebration of good practice on a global scale. It keeps us focused on high standards and reinforces our role as a leader in supporting and empowering Our People.
