Abu Dhabi Department of Community Development

The Investors in People Awards 2025 - Finalist Case Study

Abu Dhabi Department of Community Development

Nominated for The Award for Overseas Employer of the Year: Silver

Why did you enter the Investors in People 2025 Awards?

The Department of Community Development (DCD) entered the Investors in People Awards to showcase how Abu Dhabi’s social sector has evolved into a global model for people-centric governance. DCD’s mission a dignified life for all is founded on the belief that human wellbeing, inclusion, and empowerment are the true measures of progress.

Pursuing IIP accreditation was a deliberate step to benchmark our people practices against international standards and to recognise the individuals who drive meaningful change within our organisation. Since achieving IIP Silver and the We Invest in Wellbeing Standard, we have deepened our investment in people development, leadership capability, and a culture that inspires growth, innovation, and collaboration.

Through targeted learning programs, forward-looking workforce planning, and holistic wellbeing initiatives, DCD continues to build a workplace where every employee feels valued, supported, and empowered to contribute their best. Our focus on talent growth and continuous learning has strengthened engagement, enhanced performance, and fostered a positive, inclusive workplace culture that reflects our national values of generosity, responsibility, and excellence.

We also celebrated this success during our 2025 Employees’ Townhall, reinforcing pride and unity across the organisation. We entered the Awards to recognise this collective achievement, highlight the UAE’s leadership in human development, and exchange learning with the wider IIP community. For DCD, this is more than recognition—it is a celebration of our ongoing commitment to invest in people, nurture their potential, and create a workplace where purpose and performance thrive together

What has it meant to you, your team, and your organisation to be shortlisted for an Investors in People 2025 Award?

Being shortlisted is a source of immense pride and validation for everyone at DCD. It affirms that our commitment to building a values-driven, wellbeing-oriented workplace meets world-class standards. For our HR and leadership teams, it is recognition of years spent integrating learning, performance, and care into one ecosystem.

Across the organisation, the news has inspired a sense of unity and celebration. During internal townhalls, sessions, and wellbeing gatherings, employees shared stories of pride seeing themselves as part of something meaningful that reaches far beyond government.

The shortlisting also reinforces Abu Dhabi’s reputation as a forward-thinking, globally competitive hub for social impact. It reflects how a government entity can model best practices in inclusion, talent development, and organisational culture while remaining true to local values of generosity and community spirit.

For our people, this milestone confirms that their ideas, dedication, and compassion are shaping a better future. It has strengthened morale, increased engagement, and deepened our collective purpose to continue serving with empathy, integrity, and excellence.

What would it mean to your organisation to win an Investors in People 2025 Award?

Winning would be an extraordinary moment of pride for Abu Dhabi and a historic recognition of DCD’s journey to put people first. It would symbolize that our approach combining science, foresight, and culture can inspire others across the public sector to embrace human centric transformation.

For our employees, it would serve as a powerful reminder that every initiative, from leadership programs to wellbeing campaigns, contributes to a global standard of excellence. It would affirm that their daily efforts are not only improving lives in Abu Dhabi but also setting benchmarks internationally.

For the organisation, this achievement would validate our long-term strategy: cultivating leadership pipelines, promoting inclusivity, forecasting future social roles, and embedding wellbeing as a way of life. It would also strengthen our ambition to sustain IIP accreditation and expand our influence by mentoring other public entities on their own people journeys.

Above all, winning would honour the people behind our success those who serve, innovate, and care. It would demonstrate that when employees thrive, communities flourish, and that a dignified life for all is not just a vision, but a lived reality.

How important is it for your organisation to be a part of the Investors in People community and engage in awards and events like this one?

Engaging with the Investors in People community is essential to our growth. It connects DCD to a global network of organisations that share a belief in continuous improvement, ethical leadership, and people-driven innovation.

Through IIP, we benchmark our progress, learn from world-class practices, and ensure our HR and wellbeing strategies remain at the forefront of international standards. The community fosters valuable knowledge exchange particularly relevant to DCD’s role as Abu Dhabi’s social sector regulator helping us integrate global insights into local solutions.

Participation in the awards process has already sparked reflection and learning across our teams. It has encouraged cross-department collaboration, inspired fresh approaches to leadership development, and strengthened our sense of shared purpose.

We view IIP not as an annual competition, but as an enduring partnership a platform that challenges us to keep evolving while reaffirming that every success begins with people.
