We entered the Investors in People Awards to celebrate how far we’ve come and to recognise the people who have driven that change. In the past few years, AES Solar’s journey has been one of transformation. After four decades as a founder-led organisation, AES entered a new era in 2024 with a management buyout, a major acquisition, and a renewed focus on growth and integration. Guided by the Investors in People framework, we redefined how we lead, communicate, and grow together. It has helped us create an organisation where every individual feels trusted, supported, and empowered.
Entering the awards acknowledges that transformation and celebrates how far we’ve come. From a traditional, hierarchical business into an inclusive, people-powered organisation where leadership is shared, communication is open, and wellbeing is prioritised. People have always been our greatest asset, but in recent years, that belief has become our defining strategy. It’s also a way to recognise our team as the people who have embraced the change, supported each other, and helped us turn our values into action.
Our story demonstrates that even during times of upheaval, a clear focus on people can foster stability, trust, and success. It reflects the very essence of what the Investors in People community stands for: resilience, purpose, and a belief that when people thrive, organisations do too.
Finally, as one of Scotland’s longest-established solar companies, we’re proud to represent both our sector and our region. The renewables industry is evolving rapidly, and we want to show what’s possible when a business prioritises its people first. For AES, entering the IIP Awards is about celebrating progress, inspiring others, and reaffirming our belief that investing in people is the most sustainable strategy of all.
Being shortlisted is a huge source of pride for everyone at AES Solar. It shows that the hard work and collaboration of our people have been recognised nationally for a company based in the North East of Scotland and validates our shared belief that putting people first leads to lasting success.
For our teams across Forres and Dingwall, this achievement celebrates the trust, teamwork, and resilience that have defined the past two years of integration. It has brought both sites together under one shared identity, strengthening our collective sense of purpose. Colleagues have described feeling proud to work somewhere that’s not only doing meaningful work for the planet but also recognised for doing right by its people. It’s also inspired us to keep building on that success, continue integrating our sites, and push further towards our goal of being the employer of choice in the Scottish renewables sector.
For our leadership team, it’s confirmation that the changes we made, such as shifting to shared leadership and giving people more voice and ownership, are working. Change on this scale is never easy, but this recognition proves that our approach is a successful one. And for our wider team, it’s motivation to keep going, contributing to an organisation that genuinely values and supports its team.
Ultimately, being shortlisted feels like a shared achievement. It’s a moment to reflect on how far we’ve come, to celebrate the contribution of every individual, and to look forward to what’s next with renewed energy and confidence.
Winning would be a powerful endorsement of everything AES stands for. At the heart of our business, it’s our people who are the foundation of sustainable success. It would recognise not only the ambitious changes we’ve made, but also the care, commitment and teamwork that make AES so unique.
For our team members, it would be a celebration of their dedication, hard work and adaptability. It would also shine a light on the extraordinary individuals who have embraced change during this time of transition, supported their colleagues, and helped create a culture where everyone can thrive.
It would show that a company based in the North East of Scotland, operating in a challenging and fast-changing sector, can lead the way in how people are supported and developed. Winning would strengthen our reputation as an employer of choice, help us attract and retain incredible talent, and give our people even greater pride in their work.
Most importantly, it would reaffirm our core belief that when you invest in people, you create a business that not only thrives but makes a genuine difference. It would be an incredibly proud moment for AES and a tribute to everyone who has helped us get here, and a motivation to keep raising the bar for people-focused leadership in renewables.
Being part of the Investors in People community is integral to who we are and how we continue to grow. It connects us with organisations that share our values and provides opportunities to learn, reflect, and improve. The IIP framework has guided us through some of the most significant moments in our history, from leadership transition to business expansion, while the wider IIP community continues to offer inspiration and accountability as we evolve.
Awards and events are more than celebrations for AES, they’re opportunities to share experiences, learn from others on similar journeys, and recognise the dedication of our people on a national stage. For an evolving organisation like ours, that visibility and exchange of ideas are invaluable. It helps us benchmark our progress, adopt best practices, and stay focused on continuous improvement in our IIP journey.
The IIP community also reinforces something central to our culture in the idea that leadership is shared, learning never stops, and success is collective. By engaging with IIP, we remind ourselves that investing in people is not a one-off initiative or a tick-box exercise but a mindset that keeps us adaptable, connected, and ambitious.
In short, being part of the IIP community helps us stay true to our values while continually raising the bar for how we support and develop our people. It keeps us inspired, accountable, and proud to be part of a movement that celebrates the very best of what good work can be.
