The Investors in People Awards 2025 - Finalist Case Study

Nominated for The Award for Diversity and Inclusion, The Award for Driving Positive ESG Impact (5,000+ employees), The Award for UK Employer of the Year: Platinum (250+ people)

Why did you enter the Investors in People 2025 Awards?

At Amey, recognition isn’t just about celebrating success, it’s about sharing the stories and impact behind it. Entering the Investors in People (IiP) 2025 Awards was a natural step to showcase what we’ve achieved and reflect on how far we’ve come. We’re proud to be shortlisted in all three categories we entered, each representing a core part of our culture and strategy.

Our ESG submission focused on Journey to Work, a programme close to our hearts. It creates inclusive pathways to employment for people facing barriers like homelessness, justice system involvement, or long-term unemployment. Delivered across 10 UK prisons, it’s already supported 196 prisoners with skills and confidence to reintegrate into the the place of work. Being recognised for this would be a huge honour and a testament to the teams who continue to work hard to break down barriers, create opportunities and support people in building brighter futures.

In the ED&I category, we highlighted our Multicultural Leadership Development Programme, designed to close representation gaps and build a more diverse leadership pipeline. It’s already helped many step into senior roles, and supports our wider goal of 14% multicultural and 40% female representation by 2030. Being shortlisted reinforces our belief that inclusive leadership is essential for a thriving organisation.

Recognition in the UK Best Employer category is a proud moment for everyone at Amey. It reflects our collective effort to build a workplace where people feel valued, supported, and inspired. From wellbeing programmes to leadership development, we have worked hard to create an environment where people can grow and succeed.

We entered the awards to benchmark ourselves against the best and learn from others. Thank you to our teams, leaders and partners who helped shape these initiatives. Being shortlisted is already a win, it validates our direction and energises us to keep pushing forward.

What has it meant to you, your team, and your organisation to be shortlisted for an Investors in People 2025 Award?

Being shortlisted for three IiP 2025 Awards has meant a great deal to all of us at Amey, it’s a moment of pride, reflection and motivation.

For our teams, it is a powerful recognition of the passion and purpose they bring to work every day. Whether it is supporting people through our Journey to Work programme, driving inclusive leadership through our Multicultural Development Programme or, fostering a workplace culture of belonging, these nominations celebrate the impact of their efforts, and is a reminder that what we do matters.

Across the organisation, being recognised in three categories reinforces our commitment to doing business responsibly and inclusively. These initiatives are deeply embedded in our culture and help us attract and retain great people. In 2024, 7.2 per cent of our new recruits came from individuals facing barriers to employment, and we are working towards 8 per cent by 2028, including NEETs, veterans, prison leavers, and care leavers. These goals reflect our long-term dedication to inclusive recruitment and social impact.

Being acknowledged by IiP, an organisation that champions workplace excellence, is a huge honour. It encourages us to keep pushing boundaries, listening and improving.

Ultimately, being shortlisted is more than a badge, it is a celebration of our values we progress and continued journey.

What would it mean to your organisation to win an Investors in People 2025 Award?

Winning an IiP 2025 Award would be an incredible honour for Amey, and a moment of recognition for the people behind our progress.

Earlier this year, we achieved IiP Platinum, a milestone that reflects our commitment to driving continuous improvement. That achievement was a testament to the breadth and depth of work happening across our organisation, and to win an award would reinforce that recognition significantly.

It would mean that our efforts in areas like ESG, ED&I and employee experience are not just being recognised internally, but as leading practice across the wider industry. It would support the impact of initiatives like our Journey to Work programme and Multicultural Leadership Development programme.

For our people, it would be a moment of pride and celebration. It would shine a light on the dedicated employees that bring the best version of themselves to work every day, and energise us to keep pushing boundaries, listening and improving.

For the organisation, it would help us attract and retain great talent and show our clients and partners that we are serious about doing business responsibly and inclusively.
Above all, an IiP Award would be a celebration of our journey, our values, and our commitment to building a workplace where everyone can thrive.

How important is it for your organisation to be a part of the Investors in People community and engage in awards and events like this one?

Being part of the IiP community is important to us because it gives us the opportunity to learn, reflect and grow.

Engaging in awards and events like this allows us to benchmark against others, celebrate progress and stay connected to best practice. It’s also a great way to recognise our people and the impact of the work they do every day.

It also helps us stay accountable to our values. By sharing our work externally, we’re not only celebrating success, we’re opening ourselves up to feedback, challenge and continuous improvement. That’s vital for a business like ours, where people are at the heart of everything we do.

Being shortlisted reinforces that we’re on the right path, but it also motivates us to keep pushing forward. The IiP community gives us a space to connect with like minded organisations, share ideas and stay inspired as we continue to build a workplace where everyone can thrive.
