The Investors in People Awards 2025 - Finalist Case Study

Nominated for The Award for Leader of the Year, The Award for Small Employer of the Year

Why did you enter the Investors in People 2025 Awards?

At Broadway Health Centre, we entered the Investors in People Awards to celebrate our people — the heartbeat of our practice. We believe great patient care starts with a great place to work.

Our Investors in People journey has transformed how we lead, listen, and learn. We’ve embedded the framework into every layer of our organisation — from leadership and wellbeing to recognition and development.

We wanted to show that a small NHS GP practice can achieve big-system impact through compassion, collaboration, and innovation. Our five wellbeing values — Stay Engaged, Mindful Awareness, Contribute, Pursue Growth, and Develop Alliances — have become the foundation of our culture. They guide everything we do, from morning huddles to patient interactions.

This journey has shown that transformation doesn’t depend on size or budget, but on belief. We entered to share our story — that even the smallest teams can create workplaces where people truly thrive.

What has it meant to you, your team, and your organisation to be shortlisted for an Investors in People 2025 Award?

Being shortlisted has filled our team with pride, joy, and gratitude. It’s a moment of reflection on how far we’ve come — from navigating daily NHS pressures to becoming a thriving, values-led organisation.

Staff described it as “finally being seen and recognised for what we give.” The shortlisting boosted morale, strengthened teamwork, and deepened our shared purpose. It validated that kindness, empathy, and empowerment aren’t soft values — they’re powerful drivers of performance.

For us, this is more than a nomination. It’s a celebration of the human stories behind the practice — the receptionist who became a GP assistant, the care coordinator who mentors others, the nurse who grew into a leader. It’s proof that when people are supported and trusted, excellence follows naturally.

What would it mean to your organisation to win an Investors in People 2025 Award?

Winning would be a defining moment — proof that small can be mighty. It would honour every person who goes above and beyond to deliver compassionate care and exceptional teamwork.

It would also send a message across primary care that culture matters — that investing in people leads directly to better outcomes for patients and communities. For our staff, it would be a moment of pride, validation, and inspiration to keep growing.

Winning would empower us to share our model with other practices and inspire them to start their own IIP journey. For our community, it would show that local GP surgeries can be leaders in people excellence — not just providers of healthcare.

How important is it for your organisation to be a part of the Investors in People community and engage in awards and events like this one?

Being part of the Investors in People community connects us to something bigger — a shared commitment to excellence, humanity, and continuous learning.

Through the IIP framework, we’ve built structures for leadership, wellbeing, and recognition. Regular one-to-ones, reflective practice, and reward systems are now standard. The community keeps us inspired and accountable, helping us evolve from Established to Advanced across all nine IIP indicators.

For us, IIP isn’t just a badge — it’s a mindset. It shapes how we recruit, support, and celebrate our people. Being part of the IIP community means standing with others who believe that people are not a resource — they are the reason we succeed.
Over 80% of our team have developed into higher roles through internal training and mentorship. Our wellbeing initiatives — walking groups, Fitbits, fidget tools, healthy lunches, and flexible working — have improved morale and reduced sickness absence.

We use NHS England MORI Survey feedback, Google Reviews, and internal reflections to measure impact. Staff retention and engagement scores have significantly improved, while patient satisfaction has risen. Our culture is now one of trust, care, and shared growth — a genuine example of what happens when you invest in people. “We’re proud to show that compassion and leadership can exist side by side in the NHS. Our story is about belief — that when you invest in people, they build miracles, not just metrics.”
