D Morgan plc

The Investors in People Awards 2025 - Finalist Case Study

Nominated for The Award for Best Culture (over 100 employees)

Why did you enter the Investors in People 2025 Awards?

This year marks our 75th anniversary, and it is an opportunity to celebrate the people and family values that have guided D Morgan since Denis Morgan first founded the business. His family’s ongoing involvement ensures that trust, respect, and teamwork remain central to everything we do. Denis’ passion for mentoring young talent, has shaped the ethos of D Morgan. He’s always believed in choosing the right people, nurturing their skills, and building strong, supportive teams. Our commitment to the next generation continues through school outreach, career fairs, and a long-standing relationship with education providers. Denis even served as a School Governor, bridging the gap between education & industry. To mark our 75th milestone, Denis chose to celebrate with a fantastic 3-day event for over 1,500 employees, suppliers, clients, and families, but with something lasting: the creation of our Heritage & Innovation Visitor Centre. This showcases the evolution of construction, embracing technology, innovation, and AI, while honouring our rich history. It’s a space for schools, employees, families, and community groups to explore the future of our Industry.

We entered to shine a light on the colleagues who make The D Morgan Way real. From apprentices on our “learn and earn” pathway to colleagues with decades of service, teamwork is the thread that connects generations and ensures our culture is lived daily. Every new colleague is introduced to this spirit, with our Heritage & Innovation Centre and New Hey Business Campus offering spaces that connect our past with our future.

This year we refreshed our Wellbeing Policy to provide wider support, reflecting our belief that dignity, care, and teamwork must always be at the heart of work. Six consecutive 100% BSI audits and four RoSPA Golds demonstrate that excellence is embedded in our systems, but the Awards allow us to celebrate something meaningful – that excellence and teamwork habits lived by our people.

What has it meant to you, your team, and your organisation to be shortlisted for an Investors in People 2025 Award?

Being shortlisted in our 75th year has brought pride to every part of the organisation—from apprentices just starting out to colleagues with decades of service, and to the Morgan family who continue to champion The D Morgan Way.

For our people, it validates their daily teamwork supporting wellbeing, protecting safety, and driving innovation. For our clients and partners, it reinforces that D Morgan is trusted not only for technical delivery, but also for the respect and collaboration that come with it.

The shortlisting has created moments of reflection and celebration across our sites and offices, where colleagues come together to recognise that teamwork is what has carried us this far, and what will carry us forward.

What would it mean to your organisation to win an Investors in People 2025 Award?

Winning in our 75th year would be a defining moment, honouring the vision of Denis Morgan and his family while recognising the teamwork, loyalty, and creativity of generations of colleagues. It would also inspire the next generation, showing that a company founded in 1950 can remain progressive, people-focused, and built on collaboration.

For our workforce, it would confirm that their efforts refreshing wellbeing support, protecting safety, and mentoring through our “learn and earn” pathway are recognised at the highest level. For clients and supply chain partners, it would confirm that D Morgan is more than a contractor; we are a partner built on trust, respect, and teamwork.

For new starters at New Hey Campus, or colleagues visiting our Heritage & Innovation Centre, it would be proof that they are part of a company where excellence and teamwork have been daily habits for 75 years. Winning would not close a chapter but inspire us to carry The D Morgan Way into our 80th year and beyond.

How important is it for your organisation to be a part of the Investors in People community and engage in awards and events like this one?

The Investors in People community ensures we keep improving. It connects us with organisations that believe, as we do, that success comes from trust, respect, and teamwork. For us, it is also about accountability demonstrating to our people and our partners that we meet rigorous external standards. Engagement with this community strengthens our credibility, helps us attract and retain talent, and gives colleagues a sense of belonging to something bigger than one company. Most importantly, it aligns with our philosophy that “nothing can happen without a team.”

The Awards and events provide opportunities to share our story – how our Wellbeing Policy has been refreshed to broaden support, how our Heritage & Innovation Centre and New Hey Campus reflect both heritage and innovation, and how our roadmap to decarbonisation shows we are building for the future. Being part of this community reinforces our commitment to keeping people and teamwork at the heart of everything we do.
