The Investors in People Awards 2025 - Finalist Case Study

Nominated for The Award for Health and Wellbeing (up to 500 Employees)

Why did you enter the Investors in People 2025 Awards?

We entered the Investors in People Awards to showcase the progress we’ve made in embedding health and wellbeing across our business and to benchmark our approach against the best in class. Our wellbeing journey began with a simple commitment – to challenge stigma and make genuine change in a sector where conversations about mental health were once rare. Over five years, this has evolved into a fully integrated company-wide strategy that influences how we lead, manage and support our people every day.

The Awards provide an opportunity for independent recognition of this progress and external feedback to help us continue improving. We believe that sharing our experience can inspire others in the construction industry, particularly businesses of our size, to see that meaningful wellbeing strategies are both achievable and essential.

Entering the Awards is not about recognition alone; it’s about accountability and growth. It allows us to reflect on how far we’ve come, celebrate the people driving change and stay focused on creating a culture of honest, open dialogue – where every individual feels valued, supported and proud to work here.

What has it meant to you, your team, and your organisation to be shortlisted for an Investors in People 2025 Award?

Being shortlisted is a great achievement for everyone at Parkinson’s. It’s recognition of the teamwork that has gone into transforming how we approach wellbeing—from isolated initiatives to an embedded, values-driven culture.

For our wellbeing steering group, it’s validation that their commitment is making a difference. For managers, it reinforces that leading with insight, honesty and support drives both engagement and performance. And for our employees, it acknowledges their input towards something meaningful and lasting.

Across the company, this shortlisting has encouraged increased engagement and dialogue around wellbeing and strengthened our shared belief that people truly are at the heart of our success.

In an industry often considered “behind the curve” when it comes to wellbeing, this recognition shows change is possible and that our company can redefine what outstanding people practices look like in a construction firm of our size.

What would it mean to your organisation to win an Investors in People 2025 Award?

Winning an Investors in People Award would be a significant achievement for Parkinson’s and a clear acknowledgement of our long-term commitment to health and wellbeing.

In an industry renowned for being male-dominated and slow to change, it would send a strong message that construction can—and must—do better when it comes to supporting people. For a company of our size, this recognition would show the sector that leadership in wellbeing isn’t about resources or scale, but about values, consistency and confidence to do things differently.

A win would honour the dedication of every employee who has shared ideas, engaged openly or provided support to colleagues. It would also recognise the managers and mental health champions who’ve helped embed wellbeing practices into our culture.

Winning would help to inspire us to keep raising the bar, for our people, our industry and our communities. It would demonstrate that incorporating health and wellbeing at the heart of a construction business doesn’t just improve lives; it strengthens performance, reputation, and long-term success.

How important is it for your organisation to be a part of the Investors in People community and engage in awards and events like this one?

Being part of the Investors in People community is important to our growth and success. It connects us to like-minded organisations that share our belief that people are at the heart of everything we do. Through IIP, we access best practices, benchmarking, and external insights that continuously challenge us to improve.

We’re proud to have achieved IIP Gold accreditation for the fourth time since our first Gold in 2016, reflecting our long-term commitment to our people, leadership, and wellbeing. In April, we also earned the Investors in People Wellbeing Gold accreditation, highlighting our dedication to embedding wellbeing across the business.

Participation in IIP events and awards goes beyond recognition. It gives us a platform to share, learn, and inspire – particularly in a construction sector where wellbeing has often been overlooked. Our journey demonstrates that high standards are achievable, and we are proud to help set the benchmark for others.

Through IIP frameworks and recommendations, we have strengthened leadership capability, improved communication, and embed wellbeing across all levels of the business. We continue to grow as an employer that prioritises its people and contributes to the wider movement for better workplaces everywhere.
