We entered the Investors in People 2025 Awards to recognise and celebrate the progress we’ve made in building a people-first culture at Home-Start UK — one that is rooted in trust, respect, and accountability. Over the past few years, we’ve taken meaningful steps to embed our values into the way we lead, support, and collaborate across the Charity.
Our decision to enter the awards was driven by a desire to reflect on our journey, acknowledge the contributions of our people, and benchmark ourselves against other purpose-driven organisations. We’ve worked hard to create an environment where wellbeing is prioritised, where voices are heard, and where individuals feel empowered to grow and contribute. Initiatives like the Better Workplace forum and our network of Mental Health First Aiders are just two examples of how we’re actively shaping a more inclusive, supportive, and psychologically safe workplace.
We’ve also strengthened our internal systems and processes to ensure greater transparency and accountability – from performance reporting and project tracking to leadership engagement and governance. These improvements are helping us to be more ambitious and aligned in how we deliver impact, both internally and across the wider Home-Start network.
Entering the Investors in People Awards is about celebrating our people – their resilience, their commitment, and their belief in the power of community. It’s an opportunity to share our story, learn from others, and continue striving to be an charity where people truly thrive.
Being shortlisted for an Investors in People Award has been a moment of real pride for all of us at Home-Start UK. It’s a powerful recognition of the work we’ve done — not just in terms of policies or processes, but in how we live our values every day. For me personally, it’s been incredibly affirming to see our collective efforts acknowledged on a national stage. It reinforces that the work we’re doing to build a culture of trust, wellbeing, and accountability is making a meaningful difference.
For our team, it’s been a huge morale boost. It’s easy to get caught up in the day-to-day, so having this external recognition has given us a chance to pause, reflect, and celebrate how far we’ve come. It’s also sparked a renewed sense of purpose and motivation — a reminder that our people-first approach is not only the right thing to do, but something that others see as exemplary.
At an organisational level, being shortlisted has helped us build momentum. It’s validated our strategic direction and given us a platform to share our story more widely – with our network, our partners, and our trustees. It’s also encouraged us to keep pushing forward, to continue learning from others, and to stay ambitious about what kind of workplace we want to be.
Winning an Investors in People Award would be a deeply meaningful milestone for Home-Start UK. It would be a powerful validation of the work we’ve done to create a culture where people are truly valued, supported, and empowered to thrive. For us, this award would not just be a trophy — it would be a symbol of the trust, care, and commitment we’ve invested in our people and our purpose.
It would also be a moment of pride for every individual across the organisation who has contributed to our journey – from those leading strategic change to those championing wellbeing, inclusion, and collaboration in everyday interactions. It would recognise the courage of those who’ve shared their lived experiences to help shape a more compassionate workplace , and the dedication of those who’ve worked behind the scenes to improve systems, processes, and performance. Such as our Better Working Forum and Diversity Champions Groups.
For our wider network and partners, winning would reinforce our credibility as a values-led organisation that doesn’t just talk about people-first principles – we live them. It would strengthen our voice in the sector and inspire others to invest in their people as the foundation for sustainable impact.
Most importantly, it would energise us to keep going. To continue learning, listening, and evolving. To keep building a workplace where everyone feels safe, seen, and supported. And to know that in doing so, we’re not only creating a better charity – we’re helping create a better future for the families and communities we serve.
Engaging in awards and events like this one gives us the opportunity to learn from others, share best practices, and stay inspired by the innovative and values-led work happening across sectors.
It also provides a valuable external lens through which we can reflect on our own progress. The framework and feedback from Investors in People help us to continuously improve – not just in how we support our people, but in how we embed our values into every aspect of our culture, leadership, and strategy.
Participating in these events also sends a strong message to our staff, trustees, and wider network: that we are committed to being a learning organisation, one that listens, evolves, and celebrates its people. It’s a chance to pause and recognise the hard work and dedication of our teams, and to feel part of something bigger – a movement of organisations striving to create better, fairer, and more human workplaces.
Being part of the Investors in People community helps us stay accountable to our mission, energised in our purpose, and connected to others who are equally passionate about making work better for everyone.
