The Investors in People Awards 2025 - Finalist Case Study

Nominated for The Award for Overseas Employer of the Year: Silver

Why did you enter the Investors in People 2025 Awards?

At IFCO US, our people are at the heart of everything we do. We entered the Investors in People 2025 Awards to share the story of how we transformed our organization during one of the most challenging periods in modern history — and how we continue to invest in our people as the foundation of sustainable success.

A few years ago, IFCO US separated from our parent company. While this gave us the chance to build our own identity, it also came with a challenge: leaving behind the mindset of “this is how we did it before” and creating a culture that was uniquely ours. Just as we began this journey, a pandemic struck. Suddenly, we had to balance shaping a new identity with protecting our people and keeping operations running as an essential business to feed communities across the country.

This dual responsibility tested our resilience and accelerated our transformation. Investing in our people became more than a strategy — it was a necessity. We focused on keeping employees safe and supported, while also engaging them in building the future of IFCO US. Through leadership development, well-being initiatives, recognition programs, and empowering managers with new tools, we built trust, collaboration, and pride.

Today, IFCO US reflects both the strength of a global framework and the creativity of local solutions. By entering these Awards, we celebrate how we turned legacy challenges into opportunities, built resilience through crisis, and created a culture where employees are proud to say: “We bleed green.”

This recognition honors the courage, creativity, and commitment of our people who have built IFCO US into a thriving, people-first organization — and it allows us to share a story that demonstrates how investing in people creates resilience, pride, and lasting impact, even in the most challenging times.

What has it meant to you, your team, and your organisation to be shortlisted for an Investors in People 2025 Award?

Being shortlisted for the Investors in People 2025 Award is a deeply meaningful milestone for IFCO US. It is a recognition of not just the work we do, but the heart, dedication, and resilience each person has shown over the past few years — from establishing IFCO US as an independent organization to navigating the uncertainty and fear of a pandemic. It reminds us that even in the most challenging times, our people rise to the occasion, support one another, and embody the values we hold dear.

For our employees, this recognition is profoundly validating. It tells them that their contributions — their ideas, their commitment, and their courage to embrace change — are seen, valued, and celebrated. Whether it’s through leadership programs, well-being initiatives, or the small everyday moments that shape our culture, this shortlist affirms that they have shaped an organization that is more than a workplace: it is a community bound by shared purpose.

For the organization, this recognition is inspiring and humbling. It proves that investing in people is not just a strategic initiative — it is the lifeblood of our success. It shows that a culture built on trust, collaboration, and growth can withstand even the most challenging circumstances, drive meaningful results, and leave a lasting impact on both our employees and the communities we serve.

Ultimately, this shortlist is a moment to pause, reflect, and feel gratitude for the incredible people who have shaped IFCO US. It is a celebration of resilience, courage, and shared purpose — and a powerful reminder of why we continue to invest in our people, every day, no matter the circumstances.

What would it mean to your organisation to win an Investors in People 2025 Award?

Winning the Investors in People 2025 Overseas Award would be a defining moment for IFCO US — a celebration of the people who shaped our journey through challenge, change, and growth. It would honor not just our programs and strategies, but the everyday actions of employees who led with courage, embraced innovation, and built a culture rooted in trust and collaboration through extraordinary circumstances.

For our teams, it would validate that their resilience and passion have created something truly special — a workplace where people feel empowered and proud of what they do.

For the organization, it would signal that our transformation is both meaningful and sustainable. It would showcase how a people-first approach can drive resilience, inspire innovation, and positively impact the communities we serve.

Ultimately, this award would be more than a trophy, it would be a tribute to the spirit of IFCO US. A reminder that when people feel supported and valued, they don’t just work -they thrive, together.

How important is it for your organisation to be a part of the Investors in People community and engage in awards and events like this one?

For IFCO US, this is our first experience engaging with the Investors in People community, and it is profoundly meaningful. Having never participated in such a global network before, this opportunity allows us to benchmark our practices, learn from others, and showcase the unique journey of our organization. It gives us a platform to share how we have invested in our people, built a distinct organizational identity, and navigated extraordinary challenges, from detaching from our parent company to managing the uncertainty of a global pandemic.

Engaging in IIP awards and events is more than a recognition exercise — it is a way to celebrate our people, highlight our culture, and inspire continuous improvement. For our employees, many of whom have been with IFCO US through transformative times, it is a moment to feel seen and valued on an international stage. For the organization, it offers insights, guidance, and validation that the culture and strategies we have built are making a real impact.

Being part of this community also signals our commitment to continuous growth, learning, and excellence. It motivates our leaders and employees to keep innovating and improving how we support, develop, and engage our people. As a first-time participant, the experience is both exciting and humbling — and it reinforces the idea that investing in people is not just central to our strategy, it is the foundation of who we are as IFCO US.
