KASBAH (Kent Association for Spina Bifida and Hydrocephalus)

The Investors in People Awards 2025 - Finalist Case Study

Nominated for The Award for UK Employer of the Year: Gold (50-249 people)

Why did you enter the Investors in People 2025 Awards?

KASBAH entered this award as we were invited to, our category is an invitation only category and it was a great honour to be shortlisted again.

The feeling of having people who have never visited our charity or had direct access but who are still able to feel the care, compassion and value we have both for our staff team and the wonderful service users we support is very special. We know we are an exceptional provider and that our strong team ethics shine through so it made sense to aim high and strive for this prestigious award.

What has it meant to you, your team, and your organisation to be shortlisted for an Investors in People 2025 Award?

It has made us all very proud. We are a team of 90 staff and each staff member is a key stakeholder in our on-going strive towards promoting independence, informed choices and increased inclusion for every service user we support. To have our passion, commitment and effective teamwork recognised by IIP is a huge achievement as there are so many great and much bigger organisations out there.

Getting to this stage reinforces the positive impact we have is being seen and valued by people new to the organisation and this is very important to us. We know KASBAH is exceptional at what is does (supporting people with disabilities) because we are on the ground and get real pleasure from supporting each person but to have this recognised by the organisation setting the national standard for high quality and effective people management is high kudos indeed.

What would it mean to your organisation to win an Investors in People 2025 Award?

It would be a great honour and privilege to win an Investors in People award. This is the third time we have been shortlisted since 2019 so we are clearly offering key values and a positive ethos that are admired and respected by the short listers. We now want to cross the finish line and demonstrate to the KASBAH team and the wider community that we have been truly seen, valued and are a rightful winner. To get so close and not win this category on the last two occasions has pushed us harder to evidence the exceptional support we provide, we hope this year it is enough to be seen as the strong, fair and inclusive leader we are in our sector.

The people we support make our roles so enjoyable and rewarding, they deserve this recognition too, we work as a partnership, everyone matters, everyone makes a difference and has a voice in the way we shape and lead the organisation (we support 500 service users each year). We hope this has enabled KASBAH to shine that much brighter. This award will be a lasting legacy to the KASBAH team for being the ones that always go that extra mile and who truly invest in one another.

How important is it for your organisation to be a part of the Investors in People community and engage in awards and events like this one?

As a rule KASBAH waits to be invited to awards and events as we want our great work to speak for itself, this is why this award means so much to us, we did not ask for it, we were recognised for who we are. We are more than a team, we are a family with shared valued and real passion to make a difference to each and every person we support. But what makes us different as an employer is that same care and commitment is given to each and every staff member too, so they give their all each and every day.
