The Investors in People Awards 2025 - Finalist Case Study

Nominated for The Award for UK Employer of the Year: Silver (250+ people)

Why did you enter the Investors in People 2025 Awards?

Over the past three years, our organisation has been on a transformative journey. With a new Chief Executive, new accommodation, a refreshed political makeup, and a new delivery plan, we’ve embraced change with resilience and optimism.

Coming out of the pandemic, it’s fair to say we felt pretty fatigued. We faced challenges around recruitment and skills gaps, and we were recovering from a significant change in the way we worked, but we responded with a renewed focus on internal communications, staff engagement, and building a positive workplace culture.

Entering the Investors in People Awards felt like a natural step to celebrate how far we’ve come and to recognise the incredible efforts of all our colleagues with our ‘one team, one council’ approach.

What has it meant to you, your team, and your organisation to be shortlisted for an Investors in People 2025 Award?

Being shortlisted has been a huge morale boost for everyone across the organisation.

It’s a powerful validation of the hard work we’ve put into creating a more connected, engaged, and enthusiastic workforce.

From small things, like introducing ‘virtual cups of tea’ for new and existing colleagues to meet our senior leaders, to our ‘you said, we did’ approach, we’ve focused on really listening and acting.

This focus on truly responding to staff, and being open and honest about things has been especially important as we move towards local government reorganisation and deal with all the uncertainty and unsettling change that brings with it.

The renewed attention to genuine engagement seems to have energised our colleagues and reinforced the belief that we are moving in the right direction—one team, one council.

What would it mean to your organisation to win an Investors in People 2025 Award?

Winning would be a landmark moment for us. It would symbolise the turning point we’ve reached as an organisation.

Our partners are saying great things about us, our staff are proud to work here, and we’re building a culture of positivity and collaboration.

An award win would be a testament to the journey we’ve been on and a powerful motivator to keep striving for excellence in everything we do.

How important is it for your organisation to be a part of the Investors in People community and engage in awards and events like this one?

Being part of the Investors in People community is incredibly important to us. It connects us with like-minded organisations, provides opportunities to learn and grow, and reinforces our commitment to putting people at the heart of everything we do.

Engaging in awards and events like this helps us benchmark our progress, celebrate success, and stay inspired by the achievements of others.
