The Investors in People Awards 2025 - Finalist Case Study

Nominated for The Award for UK Employer of the Year: Silver (50-249 people)

Why did you enter the Investors in People 2025 Awards?

Project Group entered the Investors in People Awards 2025 to celebrate how our employee communications journey has evolved into something more inclusive and engaging for all staff across the company – regardless of role or seniority. Over the last three years, we’ve grown our headcount by 40% and turnover by 50% and entering this award is our way of recognising the progress we’ve made so far, while reaffirming our commitment to keep improving how we connect, communicate, and celebrate together. During our initial Investors in People application process, communication was highlighted as a key theme from the employees who had been surveyed. Feedback highlighted that our staff wanted to feel more connected, receive more regular updates from the business, and in more meaningful ways that were relevant to them. This insight became the foundation for our refreshed communications strategy, which has already been well-received as we have moved to more engaging and relevant updates, including regular face-to-face team/department briefings and a dynamic internal staff newsletter – The Project Press – that highlights the key themes our staff want to see. It gives each team/department a voice and allows other parts of the Group to see what different teams are doing and why. Our improved communications strategy is not just about sharing information – it’s about building inclusion and strengthening our people culture, and Investors in People provides benchmarked guidance for us to keep making improvements as we grow.

What has it meant to you, your team, and your organisation to be shortlisted for an Investors in People 2025 Award?

We’re thrilled! Being selected as a finalist is a huge honour that means a great deal to everyone at Project Group, and since the announcement, we’ve received numerous positive messages from staff expressing pride and excitement at being part of a company recognised in this way. Investors in People is a trusted, independent benchmark of excellence – one that confirms our commitment to being a people-focused organisation, and to be recognised alongside such highly regarded organisations reinforces that our efforts to put people at the heart of everything we do are making a real impact. Being shortlisted validates the hard work of everyone across our business – from our Group Board and senior leadership team to our site-based colleagues – they all contribute to creating an environment where people feel valued, supported, and engaged. We know the Investors in People name and award carries weight, and our employees and clients recognise the IIP standard as a mark of quality and integrity, and more than anything, being a finalist reminds us that we’re on the right track, which will inspire us to keep pushing forward.

What would it mean to your organisation to win an Investors in People 2025 Award?

Winning an Investors in People 2025 Award would be an incredible milestone for Project Group. It would be real validation of the journey we’re on and a sign that our efforts to build a more connected, engaged, and people-focused organisation are truly making a difference. Winning an award would show that our approach is working, and that we’re not just heading in the right direction, but creating a culture of inclusion, communication and shared purpose – all of which are vital to the success of a growing business like ours. Winning an Investors in People award would shine a light on the collective efforts of employees across Project Group and celebrate the people behind it – everyone who has embraced change, shared ideas, and helped shape who we are today. Most importantly, winning wouldn’t mark the end of our journey, it would be a launchpad for what comes next and would inspire us to keep evolving, enhancing engagement, and continuing to create a workplace where great communication continues to create stronger connections across our teams and sites.

How important is it for your organisation to be a part of the Investors in People community and engage in awards and events like this one?

Being part of a globally recognised community and engaging in Investors in People awards and events is important for Project Group’s ongoing growth and development. Our association with Investors in People as a Silver Award holder boosts our credibility, employee engagement, and performance, and being an active participant in the IIP community via awards and events will ensure that we promote continuous improvement in our people and communication strategies and allow us to benchmark against respected industry standards, identify best practices, and apply insights that will support our people and communications strategy. Being part of the IIP community offers networking and collaboration opportunities, knowledge sharing, and business growth opportunities and our involvement with Investors in People has already strengthened staff engagement by recognising where we’re excelling and where we need to make changes and improvements; it has also been the catalyst for us to embed a stronger, more relevant and more targeted communication culture that supports staff engagement, retention and development. For our clients, being shortlisted as an Investors in People award finalist demonstrates our commitment to continuous improvement for them, for our employees, and for the communities we’re part of – it’s a reminder that we’re always learning and trying to improve.
