At WCS Care, our vision is Every Day Well Lived – and that goes for our staff as much as for the people who live in our homes. We’ve been accredited by Investors in People since 1996, moving from Bronze to Gold, then achieving Platinum in 2024, right in the middle of one of the toughest times for social care.
That moment mattered. It recognised not just what we do, but how we do it; through care, kindness and trust in each other. Entering the UK Employer of the Year (250+ people): Platinum award gave us a reason to stop, reflect and celebrate how far our people have brought us. This nomination belongs to every one of them.
As a charity in an underfunded sector, we’ve had to think differently about how we support, reward and grow our people. Reward here isn’t only about pay, it’s about pride, purpose and being seen. Entering this award shines a light on our teams and the difference they make every day.
Great care starts with great people. Even in tough times, our values, Play, Make Someone’s Day, Be There, Choose Your Attitude, guide everything we do. They’re not slogans. They’re how we lead, how we care, and how we thrive. That’s worth celebrating.
In a world where headlines about care homes are too often negative, being shortlisted means a lot. It shows that great workplaces exist in social care, places where people love what they do, and residents feel that care every day.
For our carers, this is national recognition that what they do matters. Many began as carers and now lead homes and teams, shaping the next generation of care. This shortlisting validates their journey, the long shifts, the laughter, the quiet moments of kindness that don’t make the news but change lives.
Teams have shared the news with pride. Families have joined in too. It’s created a shared sense of joy, a moment where everyone from night carers to the exec team, can say, this is us.
Being shortlisted proves that our values aren’t just words. They’re actions. And they’re working.
Winning would be a proud moment – not just for WCS Care, but for everyone in social care who believes people deserve better.
It would show what happens when you build a culture on trust, compassion and purpose, not hierarchy or profit. As a not-for-profit, every penny we earn goes back into improving care and supporting our people. Recognition like this would prove that our approach, putting people first, works.
For our teams, it would say: you matter, and what you do matters. For families, it would reassure them that their loved ones are cared for by people recognised nationally for their skill and heart. And for the wider sector, it would remind everyone that care is professional, inspiring and vital.
We’re proud of how far we’ve come, but we’re not standing still. Vision 2030 is already shaping our next chapter, from new care villages to digital innovation. But before we charge ahead, winning would let us pause, take a breath, and celebrate the people who make Every Day Well Lived more than a vision.
Being part of the Investors in People community reminds us we’re part of something bigger, a shared belief that great workplaces are built on trust, fairness and opportunity.
Having that external benchmark keeps us honest. It tells our teams and future colleagues that we don’t just say people matter we prove it. We’ve held accreditation since 1996 because learning, listening and improving are part of who we are.
Our most recent assessment inspired us to go further. We even invited our assessor to our Board Away Day to explore what high-performing organisations do differently. The discussion sparked reflection, challenge and fresh ideas, exactly what we want in our culture.
Investors in People helps us show that social care can be a sector of excellence, not crisis; a place where people grow, thrive and feel proud. That’s a message we’ll keep sharing, trophy or not.
