Share your story – Tiger Eye Consulting: IIP Awards helping to drive growth & recruitment

Tiger Eye, Norwich, Office shoot September 2021

In the build-up to The Investors in People Awards 2021, we’ve been speaking to the finalists, asking them to tell us their stories and what winning an award would mean to them.

Tiger Eye empowers professional services firms to manage, optimise and utilise their documents, emails and corporate knowledge.

Known for an in-depth understanding of document management, their award-winning team are trusted by clients across the globe for DMS implementations, integrations, custom development, migrations, technical support, training, consultancy and much more.

Tiger Eye experts have been providing high-quality advice, technical support and software solutions to the Legal, Property, Finance and Media sectors since 2005.

Living by a client-centric culture, Tiger Eye put clients’ needs at the heart of all they do, offering ‘expertise, from the team that listens’ with a signature partnership approach to IT.

They’re making work better through our many innovative HR practices, including:

  • The creation of a Personal Learning Plan for every individual employee.
  • The implementation of Tiger Connect meetings – monthly joint discussions between employees and their managers to evaluate how things have gone and decide the way forward together.
  • Implementing a Four Day Working Week trial within the business provides one Rest or Learning Day per week for every team member.

A four-day working week provides individuals with an opportunity to complete learning within work time, ensuring that Tiger Eye’s team are at the top of their game and we remain the leading technical partner within the industry in which we operate.

We spoke to Founder & Managing Director Dave Wilson about why they entered, what an award would mean for them and what the future holds for Tiger Eye.

Why did you enter The Investors in People Awards 2021?

With their pride, passion and positivity, it’s our team that sets us apart from the rest. With this, our workplace culture, wellbeing programme and organisational learning programme are critical factors of our organisation’s success.

As an innovative business with a true dedication to our team, we wanted to showcase our investment in people at the Investors in People Awards to spotlight our team’s hard work, dedication, and passion.

Are there any goals or challenges you hope an award will help you achieve or solve?

We hope that receiving the Investors in People award will highlight our workplace culture as a unique benefit to potential employees in the region.

As an expanding organisation with extensive growth plans, we hope that this award will demonstrate our work environment to potential employees and support our future recruitment efforts.

Tell us what distinguishes you from other companies in the category you’re shortlisted in.

Tiger Eye is the only technology organisation in the 2-49 group of the UK Employer of the Year: Silver category. Therefore, our focus, industry, and team set us apart from other businesses in our shortlist category.

With this, the importance of technical knowledge truly sets us apart from other organisations in our grouping. Specialist technical knowledge must be nurtured, shared and passed down to the younger generation. However, the right organisational environment and leadership support are needed for knowledge-sharing and mentoring to be successful.

Building and sustaining a nurturing workplace is of paramount importance to us as we are passionate about supporting personal development in this understaffed and underskilled STEM sector so that all our team can reach their true potential.

We also believe that through our investment in learning and innovation, we can develop an attractive work offering that supports young people to explore STEM careers and ensures that specialist skills are not lost.

What does being shortlisted mean to everyone at your company?

Our team were delighted to be shortlisted for this national, widely recognised award. Whilst we have received other awards for our workplace culture and wellbeing schemes, we were ecstatic to make it to the final eight-strong shortlist for the UK Employer of the Year award, recognising our overall approach to work here at Tiger Eye.

Dave Wilson, our Managing Director, said: “It’s a privilege to be shortlisted for this award; a clear indication of the dedication and hard work the team has invested in the business. Our team are at the heart of our organisation, and we are delighted to be recognised for our investment in learning, wellbeing and culture.”

What would it mean to win?

Winning the award would mean a lot to our team. Being recognised as a leading employer with a winning approach would help spotlight Tiger Eye as the innovative organisation we aim to be and recognise our determination and passion for knowledge sharing, learning and wellbeing.

How does being shortlisted benefit your customers?

We aspire to deliver innovative products and services to our clients across the globe, supporting our customers to work more efficiently, productively and securely with their documents, emails and corporate knowledge.

Being shortlisted for this award showcases the innovation behind the scenes at our organisation, demonstrating the forward-thinking work processes and culture that drive the client-facing innovations that benefit our customers.

Our investment in people provides value to our clients with the delivery of market-leading customer service. Happy and engaged staff can assist our customers more efficiently and with greater passion for their work.

How would you use being the recipient of this award to influence others?

If we were to win the award, we hope to encourage other organisations in our industry and beyond to take a more innovative approach to their work-life balance and workplace culture.

Our investment in work processes, wellbeing and learning, has already provided a significant benefit to our business, and we hope that with our work recognised, other organisations would feel more comfortable taking risks to support their team’s mental health and workplace satisfaction.

What can we expect to see from your organisation in the next 12 months? (And beyond!)

As a forward-thinking organisation, we aim to innovate and drive our business forwards into the future. Over the next 12 months, we aim to grow our team and build on our successes through new products, new services and incorporate new functionality into our existing software range.

As winners of the Best Digital and Technology Employer Award at the Best Employers Eastern Region conference, we also hope to share our story with local businesses to raise awareness of the benefits of wellbeing and staff engagement for business success.

As recipients of the Platinum Accreditation within the Best Employers Eastern Region programme, we hope to build on our success over the next 12 months and aim to win the Best Employer: Small Business award at the next ceremony. We hope that our plans to implement a comprehensive career journey pathway over the next year will support us in achieving this goal by ensuring our staff have better clarity of their career paths within our organisation.

What advice would you give to anyone applying for The Investors in People Awards 2022?

Our advice to other potential applicants for the award would be to take the leap and apply. Being shortlisted for the award gave our leaders absolute confidence in our investments and our progressive well-being approach.

In addition, simply entering the awards and preparing our application provided us with a unique opportunity to reflect on our current processes and source areas for improvement, which offered us an outside-in view of our workplace.

Going forward for the award provided us with a fantastic opportunity to check in with our team and gather snapshots about how our dynamic workplace culture benefits our team and how our learning investments support them as individuals.
