IIP Platinum Companies Recognised by Princess Royal

At this year’s Princess Royal Training Awards, four IIP Platinum accredited companies achieved recognition for investing in the training and development opportunities within their organisations. Now in their second year, the Awards are developed and delivered by the City & Guild group, with the support of HRH The Princess Royal and they seek to honour employers who have created outstanding training and skills development programmes, which have resulted in tangible business benefits.

The IIP Platinum accreditation is the highest accolade that can be achieved against the Investors in People Standard and is currently held by only 1% of IIP accredited organisations who have truly met and advanced the expectations of our framework. Built on the three pillars of Leading, Supporting and Improving, the IIP framework sets out what it takes to deliver a people management system that enables organisations to succeed by realising the potential of their people.

The fact that 10% of this year’s Princess Royal Training Award winners are IIP Platinum organisations demonstrates the dedication across the IIP community to ensuring that people are supported and the business is high performing. In HRH The Princess Royal’s own words, "Many employers are making positive contributions to our wider communities and economies by up-skilling and empowering their employees. The Princess Royal Training Awards provide a platform for such employers, giving them the accolade they deserve.”

Among the forty winners this year were Troup Bywaters + Anders (TB+A), McFarlane Telfer Ltd, Evolution Recruitment Solutions Ltd and Brother UK, with each organisation noted for innovation in areas ranging from bridging skills gaps to using coaching to boost personal performance. TB+A have positively promoted the outcomes that their apprenticeship scheme has had, not just on business productivity, but so too on the broader organisational culture enjoyed by employees.

 Indeed, 60% of TB+A’s partners began their careers as apprentices within the company and earlier this year IIP carried out research into the determinants of good quality apprenticeship schemes. Among our findings were that having an identifiable career path is a key attraction and motivation for anyone looking at applying for an apprenticeship scheme.

On receiving the award, Neil Weller, Partner at TB+A said: “It is a real honour to receive this award which recognises the importance we place on developing all of our people. It further promotes the credibility of professional apprenticeship schemes as an equal to the university pathway”.

The importance of events giving recognition to organisations who are leading the way in evolving their training and skills programmes to reflect best practice in their industry is vital in raising the standard across the UK workforce.
