Investors in People celebrates two new appointments to its board
Investors in People are delighted to have announced two new board appointments in the last month. Following former Chair Valerie Todd CBE’s decision to step down upon completion of the Crossrail project, IIP held a rigorous interview process for her successor, leading to the appointment of Ian Deninson, Group HR and Communications Director at Amey.
Ian has enjoyed an extensive career in HR across the consumer and construction industries, working in companies such as Carlsberg, Dulux and presently, Amey. Throughout his time at the HR helm of these organisations, Ian has utilised the IIP framework to bring about organisational change through people. As such, he is uniquely positioned to offer insight into the challenges facing HR leaders who wish to make similar changes to their people management strategy.
Of his appointment, Ian said: ‘I am honoured to be joining IIP at such a pivotal moment in its evolution. This is a great organisation with a compelling purpose and ambition. As well as providing a framework and a standard, I am looking forward to working with the team to create an active community of likeminded organisations that want to share their insights and successes in developing and engaging their people.’
Building upon the exciting news of a new Chair, IIP subsequently announced the news that they were also to appoint a new Non-Executive Director; Joanna Abeyie. Beginning her career in magazine journalism, Jo soon realised that there were significant barriers to those from diverse ethnic and socio-economic backgrounds who wanted to work in the creative industry. As such, she developed programmes to enhance the skills of this diverse talent and subsequently place them in relevant jobs. This work eventually evolved into her current company, Hyden, a branch of global recruiter SThree PLC.
Following the announcement of her appointment, Jo said: “I’ve spent the last ten years helping businesses build a diverse talent pool and create inclusive working environments to allow all talent to thrive; joining the IIP board felt like a natural extension of this work.”
These announcements coincide with an exciting period of evolution for IIP, with plans to grow its community by launching an accessible, digital tool for businesses looking to unlock the potential of their people. It is IIP’s intention that all organisations, regardless of size and income, should have the opportunity to create a better workplace for their employees.
Of the recent spate of appointments to the IIP board, CEO Paul Devoy said: “I’m really excited to have two new members of the board. Both Jo and Ian bring new perspectives based on their experiences of working in the HR and recruitment sector. I look forward to seeing how Ian’s insights as an HR director will yield some new perspectives on how IIP can best benefit organisations. Similarly, I hope that Jo’s background in diversity and inclusion will refresh IIP’s approach to these workplace issues and help us deliver an even better offer to the organisations across the IIP Community.”
