The Investors in People Awards 2024 - Finalist Case Study

Payara Services Ltd

Nominated for The Award for Diversity and Inclusion

Why did you enter the Investors in People 2024 Awards?

The Investors in People Awards are well established and recognized, offering a unique platform to showcase what people-oriented companies and individuals can achieve. Payara entered the Investors in People 2024 Awards to highlight and gain recognition for our commitment and efforts to fostering an inclusive, diverse, equitable and people-centric fully remote culture. Over the past four years, our remote-first model has allowed us to build a truly global and diverse workforce, with team members across 21 countries. This strategic shift enabled us to attract top talent from regions typically underserved by the tech industry, resulting in a 37% representation of ethnic minorities and 34% female headcount, both exceeding industry averages. Our people-centric policies, such as inclusive perks, a focus on well-being, and skills-based hiring, reflect our deep commitment to not only sustaining diversity but also nurturing an environment where everyone can thrive.

What has it meant to you, your team, and your organisation to be shortlisted for an Investors in People 2024 Award?

Being shortlisted for the Investors in People 2024 Award is a testament to the hard work and dedication of the People Team (HR) at Payara as well as every Payaran. It validates our commitment to building a workplace culture that values diversity, inclusivity, equality and growth. For Payara as an organization, this nomination highlights our pioneering work in remote talent management and cultural inclusion, positioning us as a leader in workplace innovation.

For our global team, spread across different countries and time zones, this recognition reaffirms that regardless of location, culture and any other differentiator, each individual plays a vital role in our shared success. In fact, these elements help us innovate. The announcement has boosted a sense of unity and pride within the company, inspiring our team to continue driving positive change both internally and within the wider tech industry.

What would it mean to your organisation to win an Investors in People 2024 Award?

Winning the Investors in People 2024 Award would solidify Payara’s reputation as a global leader in diversity, inclusion, equity and people-focused business practices. This accolade would further validate our belief that a remote-first, diverse workforce is not only feasible but integral to driving innovation, creativity, and long-term success, especially as many other tech companies mandate the return to the office. Ultimately, in the wider business community, it would show that Payara’s progressive approach is paving the way for the future of work.

For our People team (HR) and all our Payarans, winning would further boost motivation and morale. Being acknowledged for our work would serve as a powerful reminder that their efforts in fostering an inclusive culture are not only appreciated internally but are setting industry benchmarks. It would also empower us to continue expanding our talent acquisition from underrepresented regions, scaling up initiatives such as skills-based hiring and expanding support for women and minorities.

How important is it for your organisation to be a part of the Investors in People community and engage in awards and events like this one?

Being part of the well-established and recognized Investors in People community would be an honor. Being part of it is crucial to Payara’s mission of continual improvement and excellence in people management. These engagements reinforce our commitment to being a people-first organization and help us elevate our efforts even further.

Taking part in awards and events like this allows us to benchmark our strategies against industry best practices and gain insights from like-minded organizations. It also provides a platform for us to showcase our own achievements, successes and learnings in diversity, inclusion, equality and remote workforce management. Networking with other leaders helps Payara stay ahead of evolving workforce trends, ensuring that we continue to offer a thriving, supportive environment for our Payarans.
