
We were excited by the prospect of having our commitment to colleague wellbeing recognised by a global institution with the gravitas of Investors in People.
Telic is a small tax advisory and accounting firm, with under 20 colleagues, but our collective experience encompasses some of leading professional services firms. This enables us to pair our family-values culture with incredibly high standards of client service.
In fact, our determination to be a business that makes a positive difference led us to secure the prestigious B Corp Certification. This accreditation is only given to those committed to having a positive impact on society and the environment, in addition to generating financial returns.
In recent years we’ve had a purposeful focus on what being a team means to us. It embodies showing up for each other. So, when we noted increased instances of ill health amongst our colleagues, in line with national trends, we prioritised addressing it.
With the team’s buy-in we embarked on a bespoke, science-based health and wellbeing initiative; a 12-week glucose monitoring programme, supported by input from a nutritionist. This aimed to decrease sick leave, enhance productivity and foster a resilient, health-conscious work environment, through tailored education about health management and promoting health and wellbeing practices.
Research before and afterwards found the team felt better informed about their health and enjoy higher energy levels. Sick days have dropped, and work satisfaction scores have increased by over 20%. In addition, more than a third of team members lost weight and some have incorporated more regular exercise into their routine, such as walking to work. We even received feedback about reduced back pain.
We are proud of the positive impact our company’s actions have had on our people.
As a small company, we intentionally work towards punching above our weight in terms of our approach to colleague wellbeing. This award shortlisting is a huge source of pride, giving powerfully credible validation of our belief that our commitment to each other is something rather special.
The senior leadership team is also thrilled the team is receiving recognition for their willingness to support our health and fitness initiatives, and they have make successful efforts to improve their well-being.
Achieving the ultimate success of winning this award would be hugely meaningful to Telic. While the award is specifically about health and wellbeing, this is just one way our firm expresses how important each individual is to our collective success.
So, winning the award would be a profound acknowledgement, from a giant in the world of people management, that, as a small organisation, we are indeed on the right track when it comes to valuing our people and demonstrating that in high-quality ways.
To us collaboration and learning are key ways to make those marginal gains that continue to drive us forward. Involvement in the Investors in People community is so important in terms of offering our organisation a forum for learning from others and sharing our experiences with others. Ultimately, by engaging with great communities, we can all emerge as winners.
