HomeSolutions by Sector

Great people management looks different in every sector. The standard is the same.

The pressures facing an HR Director in a law firm aren’t the same as those in a manufacturing plant or a retail operation. The language is different, the challenges are different, and so are the people making the decisions.

What stays the same is the value of an independent, practitioner-led view of how your organisation leads, supports and develops its people, and a structured framework for improving it.

Investors in People has worked with organisations across every sector for over 35 years, accrediting more than 59,000 of them and reaching 12 million people along the way. Below you’ll find sector-specific guidance, case studies and insight for the areas we’re focusing on now. We’re adding more, and if yours isn’t listed yet we’d still love to hear from you.

We have developed in-depth guidance, success stories and insight for the sectors we work with most. Each page covers the specific challenges your sector faces, how the We Invest in People framework responds to them, and what accreditation has delivered for organisations like yours.

Professional Services

Firms whose value sits in the expertise of their people, from legal and accountancy to consultancy, engineering and advisory. Culture, retention and hybrid working are the defining challenges, and independent accreditation increasingly matters commercially.

Manufacturing

Supervisor capability, retention and productivity are the pressures every manufacturer knows. Empowering and involving people is the sector's strongest lever, and the area where an outside view most often finds the biggest opportunities.

We work across every sector

Our community spans every part of the UK economy. We’re building dedicated sector pages over time, starting with the areas we’re asked about most, and adding more as we go.

Organisations we work with include financial services, technology and software, health and social care, housing and property, education and training, logistics and distribution, construction, hospitality and leisure, not-for-profit and charity, central and local government, and energy and utilities, among many others.

Whatever sector you’re in, the questions we help you answer are the same. How well does your organisation lead, support and develop its people? Where are the real strengths, and where is there more to do? And what does an independent view, benchmarked against thousands of other organisations, tell you that you can’t see from inside?

If you don’t see your sector listed, start a conversation. Our practitioners work across every sector around the globe and will tell you quickly whether accreditation is the right fit for where you are now.

Why sector context matters

The We Invest in People framework is universal. How we apply it isn’t.

A manufacturing supervisor stepping into leadership faces something different from an associate on partner track, and different again from a store manager running a team across shifts. The pressures are different, the language is different, and what good looks like takes a different shape in each.

Our practitioners bring sector experience to every assessment. They understand the operational realities and the pressures of the organisations they work with, which is what makes the framework genuinely useful rather than generically applied.

Accreditation is awarded at four levels: Standard, Silver, Gold and Platinum. Each builds on the last, so every organisation has a clear picture of where it stands today and what the next step looks like.
