Adopstar - Awards Finalist 2022 Case Study

Adopstar is an ad operations, media and marketing specialist based in Devon, helping clients around the UK and in other countries to reach their target market in the most effective ways possible. Adopstar Ltd have been shortlisted for the award for Best Apprenticeship Programme at The Investors in People Awards 2022.

Why did you enter the Awards?

We are extremely proud of how our hard work is paying off and we would like every member of our team to feel proud of what they have helped us achieve. The three categories in which we have been made finalists relate to matters that are extremely close to our hearts. Ever since opening our doors in 2010, we have made providing opportunities for apprentices in the South West of England one of our priorities. We hope that this recognition of our work will help even more young people start their careers in advertising and marketing with us.

The flexible working policy that we started discussing in 2019 and launched in 2020 has positioned us as a forward-thinking employer that genuinely cares about the wellbeing of its staff. Our reason for entering the Best Flexible Working Policy category revolves around adding our voice to the chorus calling for change from the traditional work model of sitting at a desk from 9am to 5pm and embracing the idea of work/life balance.

To our way of thinking, learning and development materials need to meet three criteria: they need to be accessible, interesting and relevant. To this end, we have created a culture of ongoing learning at Adopstar. Our entry into the learning and development category is a showcase of the work we have put into helping our apprentices and employees be the best that they can be. From creating our own training materials that work hand in hand with official apprenticeship materials to allowing our apprentices to learn from wherever they choose at their own pace, we make learning and development a priority.

What was the key point of your entry?

If we had to sum up everything we are proud of about the company we have built in a few quick points, these points would refer to our commitment to staff development and the creation of apprenticeships. They would also refer to our staff-centred company culture and the value we place on giving our team as much flexibility as possible. Ultimately, the key point of our entries is that we pride ourselves on putting our people first. That means creating the type of apprenticeships that enable young people to start lucrative careers. It also means creating innovative approaches to training and development that make a difference. Lastly, it means putting our people first, acknowledging that they have lives and responsibilities outside of work and letting them get their jobs done in ways that work for all of us.

What would it mean to you to win?

Being a finalist in these three categories is an extraordinary honour, which has been driven home by reading the case studies of the other wonderful companies that have been shortlisted. As the Adopstar management team, we are humbled by reading about these companies that are doing extraordinary things for their staff, their communities and their clients. For us, being the winner in any of these categories would affirm that we are fulfilling our self-given mandate to care about our team and go above and beyond what is required. In a nutshell, it would show that we are succeeding in making Adopstar a place where people don’t just have to work, but a place where they want to work.
