TLC Care - Awards Finalist 2022 Case Study

TLC Care currently owns and operates eight award winning care homes in North London, Hertfordshire, Surrey and Cambridge, all registered and regulated by the Care Quality Commission. Chief Operating Officer, Lorna Badrick has been shortlisted for the Leader of the Year awards at The Investors in People Awards 2022.

Why did you enter the Awards?

At TLC Care we work in partnership with Investors in People to continually enhance our people practices, making a positive difference in the lives of our team members every day. People are at the heart of all we do and our leader, Lorna, is at the forefront, championing our team members and supporting them to fulfill their potential and more.

We nominated Lorna for the Leader of the Year Award to recognise all she does for our team and to celebrate her person centred compassionate and empowering leadership style.

What was the key point of your entry?

In her role as a board champion for mental health and wellness, Lorna has created a fully inclusive culture that encourages everyone to be their true selves at work and to express their feelings openly and honestly. Lorna is an ambassador for self-care for all and openly shares her own experiences to encourage others to do the same. Lorna trained this year with MHFA England to be able to train team members internally to become Mental Health First Aiders and this is part of her vision of having a trained Mental Health First Aider in every department in every care home.

Our engagement and retention levels are incredibly high, and Lorna is constantly looking at ways to improve these even further as she understands how important it is for everyone to feel happy and fulfilled at work. Lorna’s compassion, resilience, empathy and calm approach are valued by all at TLC Care and she is a role model for person-centred leadership.

What would it mean to you to win?

As an organization, we are proud to have achieved IIP Platinum and our partnership with IIP is one that we cherish. To win an Investors in People award would be an outstanding achievement and a reflection of the importance of people excellence within the care sector.

When asked how she would feel personally if she won Lorna shared:

“As a HR professional and leader, I have worked with IIP for 20+ years and to me, IIP defines exceptional people practices on a global scale which in turn makes a difference to the lives of team members. To win the award would be a real honour and a recognition of the ongoing work that myself and the whole TLC Care team do to support people to be the best that they can be and more. It certainly would be an incredible moment for me and an opportunity to celebrate the difference person-centered leadership makes to the happiness and involvement of our whole team.”
