Investors in People Awards 2023 finalist case study

Notting Hill Genesis

Nominated for The Award for Young Person of the Year (500+ people)

Why did you enter the Investors in People 2023 Awards?

We (NHG) has had a longstanding partnership with IIP, spanning several years, and it’s thanks to the support and guidance they’ve provided that we’ve been able to achieve our Silver rating. In the context of this particular award, I know it’s crucial for NHG to acknowledge and give credit to our exceptional colleagues who consistently go above and beyond the call of duty, making a significant impact both within our organisation and in the broader community. My teams have advised that given my exceptional work in advocating for Equality, Diversity, and Inclusion (EDI) as well as Wellbeing, with a particular focus on caregiving, there couldn’t be a more fitting award for my nomination.

What has it meant to you, your team and your organisation to be shortlisted for an Investors in People 2023 Award?

I actually cried when I received the email saying I had been shortlisted for a second year running. The work I am doing around supporting carers in the workplace and additional work I am doing working with other organisations to raise awareness comes from a place of passion and determination, through my own lived experience of being a carer for mum, as I want to sure everyone with caring responsibilities is supported. But getting recognised officially for this work is a truly humbling experience. It shines a bright spotlight on caregivers and their crucial role in our society. The carers network I run, and the colleagues who nominated me, are all over the moon and are eagerly awaiting the final results. NHG was also initially shortlisted as one of the top 20 employers in the UK in the category for companies with more than 250 employees and a silver accreditation from Investors in People. Although we didn’t make it as a finalist, the organisation is thrilled that my efforts, both within NHG and externally, have been acknowledged and appreciated and they have also done a lovely article internally too.

What would it mean to your organisation to win an Investors in People 2023 Award?

Last year we achieved Silver in our first Wellbeing award by IIP, and Silver in our overall accreditation, this is a clear endorsement on how we support colleagues, but by actively seeking a benchmark also shows we know there are improvements to be made and any recommendations we will actively work on. Receiving the Young Person of the Year award would not only demonstrate the business’s investment in its staff but also hold immense personal significance for me. I’ve been a carer all my life, and I’m on a mission to prove that being a carer shouldn’t stop your career. So, this accolade would send a powerful message to the countless caregivers in the workforce, assuring them that they matter, and their hard work doesn’t go unnoticed. I would also definitely cry again.
