Why did you enter the Investors in People 2023 Awards?

We entered as the Investors in People 2023 Awards as we know Investors in People are the global leaders in people management and wellbeing standards. Entering the awards gives us a great opportunity to think about publicly celebrating how much we care about our people and to celebrate our great wellbeing work.

What has it meant to you, your team and your organisation to be shortlisted for an Investors in People 2023 Award?

All the awards are very prestigious, and it gives us a great sense of achievement to have been shortlisted for the health and wellbeing award – it is really valuable to all of our people to have this initial celebration of the success and impact of our wellbeing strategy and programme.

What would it mean to your organisation to win an Investors in People 2023 Award?

We have been an Investor in People for more than 25 years, and an Investor in Wellbeing for the last 5 years. Our wellbeing work, the way we support our employees with their wellbeing and our innovative wellbeing initiatives have become a core part of our business strategy. To have external validation and recognition of the effectiveness of our work would provide an incredible milestone for all BAM people who have been involved in our wellbeing journey. We have 400+ wellbeing champions (mental health first aiders), plus our managers, leaders and our HR team who all play an active part in this. It sends a great message to our people that we really do care about them, and it helps our industry to be a pacesetter in workplace wellbeing – providing inspirational and taboo-breaking leadership in the construction and civil engineering sector.

How important is it for your organisation to be a part of the Investors in People community and engaged in awards and events like this one?

We regularly engage with Investors in People events – whether in person or online. We value being part of the Investors in People community as we continue to learn about wellbeing and how we can improve, and to have the opportunity to share our best practice and what has worked (and not worked!) for us, so we can all continue to learn, improve our wellbeing, and better support our people.
